Have a Happy (carbon-neutral, environmentally-friendly, human-unfriendly) New Year

Posted by KingShamus on December 31, 2009

Manhattan Infidel finds something sorta not-so-celebratory about tonight’s New Year’s celebration.

To fight the scourge of man-made global warming, several countries have announced that New Year’s celebrations will have low carbon footprint, environmentally friendly themes.

Nowhere is this more evident that in perhaps the most famous of New Year’s Eve locations, Times Square in New York City.  Normally a sea of artificial light this year all power in Times Square will be turned off at 11:50 PM and the intersection will be plunged into total darkness.

“We feel that doing this will symbolize New York’s commitment to saving the planet.  Also, the total darnkess thing might make it easier for me to cop a feel” said an organizer.

Ron Paul gets the gasface

Posted by KingShamus on December 31, 2009

Ron Paul does his usual isolationist drag act, saying that we asked for the Undi-Bomber’s terrorist strike against us because we’re occupiers. AllahPundit takes him to the woodshed.

…there is no U.S. occupation of Yemen or Nigeria. The only way the airline plot is a reaction to U.S. “occupation” is if you accept the jihadist premise that there are no Arab/Muslim nation-states but rather only one Islamic caliphate waiting to be born. Only in that way does the U.S. occupation of Iraq warrant a reprisal from, say, a Pakistani or Yemeni. And yet, needless to say, if Britain was attacked tomorrow and Obama pledged U.S. forces to assist in the reprisal, Paul would be the first guy to scream that we should scrupulously observe national boundaries and not go fighting another country’s battles for it.

I’d just add a few things.  Isolationism is a temptation.  There are many times (especially since 9/11) that I would love to pull in our horns and hide behind America’s oceans.  Let the rest of the world…the ingrateful Euroweenies, the kleptocratic Middle Easterners, the genocidal African psycho-regimes, the statist assholes in Asia, the banana republics in Latin America, all of them…let them run off into their own self-created hells.  There is a part of my that would gleefully tell all the moron-states that haven’t figured out the free market, property rights and republican virtues to fuck themselves.

Then I realize that it isn’t 1850 anymore, I get past my simplistic stereotypes and I try to address the world as it really is.  Ron Paul is right when he talks about deficit spending and the ugly growth of big government.  Once he starts yip-yapping about foreign policy, he is hopelessly out to lunch.

Our King

Posted by KingShamus on December 31, 2009

Work? Not for me.

Being president is harrrrrrrrrrd.

I suspect that what Obama wanted was to be the King, not the President. The King’s role is largely ceremonial. In time of national tragedy the King goes before the camera and says, “this is very sad.” If he can assign blame on a perceived enemy he does so, and then he steps aside and retires to his amusements while those actually in charge clean up the mess and determine how to prevent future messes. Everyone loves the King, defers to the King, rushes to do for the King, but the King -who tends to get bored and distracted by the dry business of actually governing- is responsible for very little, and most are just as glad of it.

If a King is on vacation and his country encounters an critical issue, he knows there is no need to come jetting back to the palace, because the Prime Minister is taking care of reality. All the King needs to do is -in a day or three- show up at a microphone in casual dress and do the PR work of expressing concern over the issue and confidence in the government. The King can command instant coverage, even if there is only time for audio.

True dat.

From everything we’ve found out about Barry the Benevolent, it’s pretty clear dude is not at all scared of taking the path of least resistance.  When he wanted to write two memoirs, he got Bill Ayers to scratch them out.  When he wanted to be an Illinois state senator, he got a judge to unseal court documents that damaged his opponent.  W hen he wanted to be a US Senator, he got another judge to unseal court documents against that opponent in order to smear the guy.  Obama basically spent his time in the Senate running for president.  Once he got into the White House, he couldn’t be bothered to write his own legislative agenda, so he let Nancy Pelosi, Henry Waxman and Harry Reid do it for him.

At key points in our President’s life, he gladly let other people do the heavy lifting while he preened himself to look pretty for the cameras and his adoring public.  The Anchoress is wrong.  Obama isn’t a king.  He’s a queen.  A petulant, spoiled, brittle queen.

Iowahawk gets the best guest columnists

Posted by KingShamus on December 30, 2009

How does he keep scoring the big-name celebrities?  The Detroit Undie-Bomber?  Good get, homie.

Take for example a recent flight I took from Lagos to Detroit. With over 100,000 miles on my JihadAir platinum card, I’ve schlepped enough miles through Heathrow and Gatwick and Yemen International to know I should be at the airport two hours before departure. Especially during the holiday heavy bombing season. Good thing too, because by the time I got there, there was already a mile long line at the explosives counter. And man, talk about smell! I swear half of these stupid shaheeds hadn’t bothered to take a shower, let alone a pre-martyrdom ablution ritual. Come on people, how about a little self respect?

And right when I was only two martyrs in line from the counter? Yep, you guessed it. The stupid explosives agents called for a prayer break. To top that, just as I was finishing my last supplication, I get up off the prayer rug and these three friggin’ Saudis totally jump the line, and I’m like, “dude, WTF?” And they’re like, “hey, sorry bro, we’re late for a bombing in Somalia.” And I’m like, “come on man, we’ve all got flights we want to bomb, no cutting.”

Quote of the Day

Posted by KingShamus on December 29, 2009

Yeah, I’m stealing most of Mark Steyn’s post. If it’s any consolation, I’m nicking from the best.

Islam is bilingualism on steroids. When the community reaches the size it’s now at in Yorkshire or Malmo or Rotterdam, it has the ability to self-segregate and you wind up on the road to “two solitudes”, parallel societies. (That partially explains the second- and third-generation disassimilation Derb references.) For example, we think of Amsterdam-to-Detroit as a flight between two western cities. But if you’re Muslim it’s a flight between two outlying provinces of the dar al Islam – the fast Islamifying Amsterdam and Dearborn, Michigan.

As I said, if you happen to find yourself in a bilingual society (which, as in Canada, is really two unilingual societies), you make the best of it. But I cannot see why any society would choose to become bilingual. Likewise, if you’re in Nigeria or southern Thailand or Kashmir, you make the best of it. But I can’t understand why any society would lightly volunteer to become semi-Muslim – which is what in effect Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany et al have done. And, once you’ve done so, like Derb says, what’s the answer?

What’s even worse is that America has decided to follow the Euro-dweebs down the same miserable gutless Islamization path. We’re not nearly as far along the road as the Continentals, but we could be there soon enough

The problem isn’t so much mass unchecked immigration-although that’s no small thing either-as much as it is the opinion of our elite decision-makers.  The ‘smart set’ very much believes in the salad bowl theory of immigration.  This basically means that no one culture is better than another, so America can easily handle a cornucopia of religions, languages and foreign social customs all bounding around the cultural landscape of the United States and everything will be just peachy.

Like almost everything that comes out of the American Left’s brainfart-sphere, it’s all very comforting.  The salad bowl allows soft-hearted liberals to permanently put off any hard social policy decision regarding immigration and acculturation.  Because in the opinion of the elites, any tension between the caucasian English-speaking Christian majority and other ethnic/linguistic/religious minorities is automatically blamed on bigotry from the majority.  It’s always whitey’s fault when shit goes awry in society, but eventually the dumb down-market crackers will stop bitterly clinging to their religion or guns or whatever those types believe in and just be nice hip progressives like they should be.

Further, even if several linguistic or ethnic populations bump into each other and cause serious tension, the elites can generally count on their status and money to insulate them from their dipshit policy prescriptions.  The once high-class neighborhood getting shakey?  There are always gated communities.  Are the formerly quality public schools churning out nothing but uneducated no-future thugs?  Private education is there to stop Junior and Buffy from milling about with the riff-raff.  In just about every important way, well-to-do lefties can keep the poisoned fruits of their nonsense ideas far away from themselves.

So for the progressive kool kid crowd, the problem of Muslim populations and assimilation into the larger American culture is basically meaningless.  Islam and the various social accoutrements attached to it are just another thread in multi-culti blankie.  Islam is just as cool as any other tradition, so who gives a shit if a few Muslims act a little naughty every once in a while?  That’s just the price of tolerance and liberal self-satisfaction.

That attitude is awesome if you happen to be a well-off liberal.  If you’re anybody else, eh not so much.  It would be aggravating if the salad bowl theory just lead to someinconvenient Quebecization.  What it will actually lead to is people getting killed needlessly because we don’t dare do anything politically incorrect.

Ladies very much liked cruising with Jack and Ted

Posted by KingShamus on December 28, 2009

Speaking of pimps hands and the retention of strength thereof…

We believe the photo was taken in the mid-1950s. It shows two naked women jumping off the boat and two more naked women sunning on the top deck. Just below the top deck — a man appearing to be John F. Kennedy is lying on a deck, sunning himself.

TMZ had multiple experts examine the photo — all say there is no evidence the picture was Photoshopped. The original print — which is creased — was scanned and examined for evidence of inconsistent lighting, photo composition and other forms of manipulation. The experts all concluded the photo appears authentic…

There are numerous articles and books on President John F. Kennedy which mention a 2-week, Mediterranean boating trip that JFK — then a Senator — took in August, 1956, with his brother Ted Kennedy and Senator George Smathers. The trio reportedly entertained a number of women on the yacht. Jackie Kennedy was pregnant at the time and was rushed to the hospital while JFK was on the boat. Doctors performed an emergency C-section, but the infant was stillborn.

AKA:  The sexxxiest (unreported until now) political scandal of 2009 1956.

Stay classy, Dead Kennedys.

Link found by Dan Riehl, who rules.

UPDATE:  It’s a fake.  Damnit.  Too good to be true.  I apologize.

Janet Napolitano is not a well woman

Posted by KingShamus on December 28, 2009

“The system worked” should be carved into this short-bus rider’s political tombstone.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano brushed off the glaring mistakes that allowed a Nigerian bomber onto a U.S.-bound plane, stressing Sunday that everything worked “like clockwork” – after passengers foiled his plot.

“Once the incident occurred, the system worked,” she stunningly told ABC’s “This Week.”

I had no idea that our homeland security system consisted of dumb luck, terrorist incompetence and a quick-thinking Dutch dude.  Heckuva job, Janet.

Also, you gotta love the ‘once the incident occurred’ part.  The funny thing is that same thing could be said about 9/11.  Once the incident occured, the system-police, firefighters, paramedics-made heroic efforts to save countless lives on September 11th.  But I thought the point of Homeland Security was to, oh I dunno, prevent incidents like this from occurring in the first place.

On this morning’s Today Show, Napolitano tried walking back her nonsense from yesterday.  Of course, she only stepped into the shit even further.

LAUER: You would then concede that the system prior to that, the system that’s supposed to prevent something like this from happening, failed miserably?

NAPOLITANO: It did.  And that’s why we are asking a lot of the same questions I heard you asking before this interview.  How did this individual get on the plane? Why wasn’t the explosive material detected?  What do we need to do to change perhaps the rules that have been in place since 2006 for moving somebody from the generic database to more elevated status.  All of that is under review right now.

LAUER: So many man-hours, so much money, Madam Secretary, has gone into securing fliers in this country and around the world, and so let’s talk about it: how does a guy who’s on this general terror list, who then buys a one-way, trans-Atlantic ticket with cash, checks no luggage, a man whose own father has written a letter to authorities both in his own country and U.S. embassy authorities, saying he’s worried that his son has become more radicalized and might attempt some kind of suicide mission. How is this guy not the perfect candidate for a strip search or a full-body scan?

NAPOLITANO: I’ve asked the same question.

Translation:  This is all Bush’s fault.  Also, I don’t know whats going on in my own Department.  Can I have a lollipop and go home now?

It’s pretty clear that Janet Napolitano…and by extension Barack Obama…has missed the boat on the whole ‘Defend Americans’ part of their job descriptions.  St. Barry just wants to eat his waffle on a Hawaiian vacation, so he can’t be disturbed with this trifling narrowly-averted tragedy stuff.  Meanwhile, Napolitano is spinning her wheels trying to make excuses about why she doesn’t have a clue about her job nearly a year into having it.

We can’t fire the clearly clueless Barack Obama for another two years.  But Barack Obama can and should fire his mouth-breather Homeland Security Secretary right fucking now.  With any luck-maybe the same kind of good fortune that stopped the Northwest Airlines terrorist from succeeding-St. Barry picks someone with a better idea about stopping terrorist incidents before they occur.  Remove Janet Napolitano from her position immediately.  She’s patently unfit for her office.

The sexxxiest political scandal of 2009

Posted by KingShamus on December 27, 2009

Keep your pimp hand strong, Guvnah.

Pressure mounted on Gov. Narain Dutt Tiwari to quit after the tape allegedly showing him in bed with three women was broadcast Friday, prompting the opposition and women’s right groups to hold street protests in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh’s state capital, demanding his resignation.

Tiwari’s office denied the allegation, denouncing the tape as fabricated.

Tiwari, a veteran governing Congress party leader at the national level, sent his resignation letter to the Indian president on Saturday, citing health reasons, a state official said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

Dude is 86 years old and holding it down with three chicks.  Although a part of me is disgusted by this, I’m mostly really impressed.  Way to rock the four way action, corrupt geriatric sex-fiend.

Another awesome aspect of the story is that Indian TV decided to broadcast the video.  I was under the impression that Indian society was a bit more circumspect about, oh I dunno, showing group sex on television.  If that’s the case, I’m gonna have to upgrade my satellite provider to catch some subcontinental channels.

The three women were brought to Hyderabad by another woman who was allegedly promised a mining lease by the governor in return for sexual favors, ABN Andhra Jyoti News reported.

The woman said she decided to expose Tiwari through a sting operation after he did not keep his promise, the channel said.

Now this is a scandal I can get behind.  Good old-fashioned quid pro quo with a dose of career-ending embarrassment when the quid didn’t get pro-ed for the quo. So many corruption trainwrecks are hard to follow, with money changing hands in byzantine ways to get some murky deal done.  Tiwari was just looking to score with three chicks.  The three chicks were simply trying to secure a mining lease.  When the arrangement fell apart, the shit hit the airwaves.

Simple.  Sleazy.  Hilarious.  What’s not to love?

Thwarted terror attack in Detroit

Posted by KingShamus on December 26, 2009

Shock of shocks, the guy was put up to it by…al-Qaeda.

According to the authorities, [Abdul Farouk Umar]Abdulmutallab says he made contact via the internet with a radical imam in Yemen who then connected him with al Qaeda leaders in a village north of the country’s capital, Sanaa.

Authorities say they do not yet know if the imam was the same one who was in contact with Maj. Nidal Hasan prior to his alleged attack on soldiers at Fort Hood last month. American-born Anwar Awlaki has lived in Yemen since 2002 and is considered a major recruiter for al Qaeda by U.S. authorities. He survived a U.S.-backed air strike earlier this week.

The suspect in the Northwest Airlines attack told FBI agents he lived with the al Qaeda leader in Yemen for about a month and was not allowed to leave as he was trained in what to do and how to do it, authorities said.

But of course, we had no idea that Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab was involved in any way with al-Qaeda.

Earlier Saturday, it was revealed the U.S. reportedly had known for at least two years that the suspect could have terrorist ties.

The official said that the suspect has been on a list that includes people with known or suspected contact or ties to a terrorist or terrorist organization.

The intelligence database that Abdulmutallab is part of is described as containing people who have “loose ties or links to extremists,” Fox News has learned. Any person in this database is someone who as of yet rises to threat level of no-fly lists or other more serious screenings.

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

What’s an al-Qaeda dipshit gotta do to get some TSA love?  A video of Bin Laden and Zawahiri giving homeboy a Cleveland Steamer in some Yemeni mudhut?

Update:  Ed Driscoll gets some nice pwnage on the Yemeni/Nigeria axis of explosive nut-huts.

Merry Christmas, Progressives

Posted by KingShamus on December 26, 2009

The bitter-end left isn’t going to like this one little bit.  William Daley is nervous.

Witness the losses in New Jersey and Virginia in this year’s off-year elections. In those gubernatorial contests, the margin of victory was provided to Republicans by independents — many of whom had voted for Obama. Just one year later, they had crossed back to the Republicans by 2-to-1 margins.

Witness the drumbeat of ominous poll results. Obama’s approval rating has fallen below 49 percent overall and is even lower — 41 percent — among independents. On the question of which party is best suited to manage the economy, there has been a 30-point swing toward Republicans since November 2008, according to Ipsos. Gallup’s generic congressional ballot shows Republicans leading Democrats. There is not a hint of silver lining in these numbers. They are the quantitative expression of the swing bloc of American politics slipping away.

And, of course, witness the loss of Rep. Griffith and his fellow moderate Democrats who will retire. They are perhaps the truest canaries in the coal mine…

All that is required for the Democratic Party to recover its political footing is to acknowledge that the agenda of the party’s most liberal supporters has not won the support of a majority of Americans — and, based on that recognition, to steer a more moderate course on the key issues of the day, from health care to the economy to the environment to Afghanistan.

Translation:  Hey liberals-you’re driving us off a cliff.

Expect a gajillion angry responses from the progtard bunch.  But even Bill Daley stumbles onto the truth every once in a while.

Enjoy your majority while it lasts, thumbsuckers.

Thirty Years of ClimateGate in visual form

Posted by KingShamus on December 26, 2009

It’s a pdf, so it’s a little clumsy, but it is well worth your time.

I snagged this from BlueGrassPundit’s TwitterFeed.  Damn you Twitter, you handy invention with a dipshit name.

Anyway…right at the beginning of the thing, there are some telling quotes from various warmist leaders.  Check this one out:

“To capture the public imagination … we have to offer up some scary scenarios, make simplified dramatic statements and little mention of any doubts one might have. …Each of us has to decide the right balance between being effective, and being honest.”   STEPHEN SCHNEIDER, Stanford Professor of Climatology, lead author of many IPCC reports,Discover Magazine interview, Oct.89

Did you catch the date?  1989.  The global warming nutbags have been jobbing the media for decades and the MSM was too stupid or naive or politically motivated to actually notice it.

Michael Totten on Lebanon 2009

Posted by KingShamus on December 24, 2009

Whatever is good for Hezbollah/Bashar Assad/Iran is bad for Lebanon, Israel…and America too.

Lebanese Prime Minster Saad Hariri just spent two days with Syrian strongman Bashar Assad in Damascus, and you’d think from reading the wire reports that Lebanon and Syria had re-established normal relations after a rough patch. That’s how it’s being reported, but it’s nonsense. Hariri went to Damascus with Hezbollah’s bayonet in his back.

Assad’s regime assassinated Saad Hariri’s father, Rafik, in 2005 for just gingerly opposing Syria’s occupation of Lebanon. There is no alternate universe where Saad Hariri is OK with this or where his generically “positive” statements at a press conference were anything other than forced.

…No one has Hariri’s or Lebanon’s back, not anymore. He and his allies in the “March 14″ coalition have sensed this for some time, which is why Druze leader Walid Jumblatt has grudgingly softened his opposition to Assad and Hezbollah lately. When Hariri went to Damascus, everyone in the country, aside from useless newswire reporters, understood it meant Syria has re-emerged as the strong horse in Lebanon.

…The U.S. and France did effectively isolate Assad with Saudi assistance when George W. Bush and Jacques Chirac were in charge, but presidents Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy think they can save the Middle East by “engaging” its most toxic leaders. Syria, therefore, is no longer isolated. Lebanon’s little anti-Syrian government doesn’t stand a chance under these circumstances, especially not when Hezbollah is the dominant military power in the country.

I know it feels like a million years ago, but the Lebanese  democratic uprising against the Syrian/Hezbollah/Iranian axis of assholes was a truly magical time.  For an instant it seemed like another seed of hard-won freedom had blossomed in the Middle East.  With just a little support from the outside world, it felt like the chinless wonderboy Bashar Assad had been beaten back into his rat-hole in Damascus.

Almost five years later, all that seems like it came from a different universe.  Because Barack Obama is determined to work with any foreign thug kleptocrat with a university-approved anti-American axe to grind, the US is back in the dictator-appeasement business.  Sad.

Obama’s promises always come with an expiration date

Posted by KingShamus on December 23, 2009

Did you have any doubt the feckless assclown would be able to keep his word on closing Gitmo?

President Obama’s commitment to close the Guantanamo Bay prison by next month may now be delayed until 2011 because it will take months for the federal government to buy a prison in the state of Illinois and upgrade it to hold terror suspects.

The drawn-out construction timetable shows the political risk of Obama’s pledge, a delay that could even be extended by congressional opposition to financing the purchase and upgrades for the Thomson Correctional Center.

Lawmakers in both parties have been wary of bringing detainees to the United States. Attorney General Eric Holder already has decided that self-declared 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others will be tried in federal court in lower Manhattan, New York City.

In the Senate, a spokesman for Republican Leader Mitch McConnell promised that the party would use delaying tactics to prevent allocation of money for the Illinois facility and said he expected support from Democrats.

Senior congressional Democrats have said it is too early to know whether members of their party would oppose setting aside money for the facility, but some have expressed skepticism about bringing detainees to the United States.

Democratic Sen. Jim Webb has said previously, “It is my strong belief that individuals charged with acts of international terrorism should be classified as enemy combatants. They do not belong in our country, they do not belong in our courts, and they do not belong in our prisons.”

Obama originally said Guantanamo would close Jan. 22. While that date proved unrealistic, the president has directed administration officials to move quickly to acquire the maximum security Thomson facility.

Why is Barry so incompetent?  It”s like watching a window-licker trying to fuck a football.

They’re trying to buy off Bart Stupak

Posted by KingShamus on December 23, 2009

Completely expected.

Stupak tells us that he’s disappointed that Democratic leaders have offered him legislative favors in exchange for supporting Obamacare. “This shouldn’t be a bill where you use hush money,” says Stupak. “This isn’t an appropriations bill where you try to get the best projects for your state.”

“In the House, we need to bring equity back into the process,” says Stupak. “We need to cut out those sweetheart deals.” If the deals in question are not removed, Stupak will vote against the bill. In the meantime, he says, “my reservations are growing.”

“I’ve spoken with a half-dozen members in the last 48 hours, and they’re all really concerned with the Senate bill,” says Stupak. “We all agree: We’ve lost our objective with health care. Where you live should have nothing to do with the quality or cost of your coverage.”

Hey Bart:  Nice unsubtle shot at Senator Nelson.  Didn’t think you had it in you, homie.

Allah still thinks health care deform is gonna pass.  Regrettably, I think he’s probably right.

The only thing that can stop this legislation is continued intense pressure from voters.  If vulnerable Democrats are certain they’ll lose their jobs if they vote for ObamaCare, many of them will chicken out and cast a ‘nay’ against this turd sandwich.  It might not work, but at least we’ll have done our due diligence to kill the bill before it kills us.

The future? It’s waiting in line for a routine medical procedure-FOREVER

Posted by KingShamus on December 23, 2009

A lot to like out of Jonah Goldberg’s latest, but here’s a taste.

In his special healthcare address to Congress in September, he said, “I am not the first president to take up [the cause of healthcare reform], but I am determined to be the last.” Those were just words, and everyone, including Obama, knew it. Indeed, the only grounds for supporting the bill, according to progressives, is that it is a “first step” or a “starter house” that they’ll build on for years, even generations, to come. In other words, the healthcare debate is not only not going to end, it’s going to get uglier for as far as the eye can see.

I know the right has won a few victories this past year. They were all the sweeter because they were so unexpected at the dawn of the Age of Obama. The conservatives have managed to poke more than a few holes in Barry’s precious rhetorical windbaggery. That’s pretty great.

The problem remains that ObamaCare in some form is still very likely to pass. Regardless of the various versions, it’s a first order hack-job full of garbage that retards individual liberty, federalism and the US Constitution. Yeah it’s bad enough to get state’s attorney’s general riled up, but that doesn’t mean Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi aren’t hell-bent to get this shit-bag on President Chocolate Messiah’s desk.

The question is: What’s the conservatives’ next move when this thing gets reconciled and passed?
