About this whole blogging thing…

…Mr. Dustbury has some interesting observations.
Still, in a decade and a half of slogging away at the keyboard — and the same keyboard at that, I’ll have you know — I personally have gone from having no influence whatsoever to having extremely little influence. To me, that’s a major upgrade.
And that may be the whole point. Few of us are big-time operators, and that’s not likely to change; but we’re right on the edge of the Era of Decentralization. Why else would the Bolshevik 2.0 crowd in Washington — which isn’t just government, by the way — be working so hard to build up their forces? Because they know they can be replaced. In such an environment as this, even the least of us matters more than he thinks.
You know what would be really rad? If I got paid in the six figure range for doing this bloggerino. That ain’t happening, unless Richard Mellon Scaife has 300,000 grand a year burning a hole in his pocket. (E-MAIL ME, RICH.)
You know what I have to settle with? A small role in the right-wing blogosphere. No, it’s not particularly lucrative, but it’s pretty awesome to talk greasy about politics with my internet homies.
But there’s more to it than just good conversation.
Listen to NoOneOfAnyImport’s take.
The first reason is also the impetus for starting my own blog: to defend myself and my peers. I do not relish the debate. I actually hate conflict of any sort. I’m a compromiser, a harmonizer, a get-along-gal by nature. Yet, after countless articles and news segments insulted us Tea Party protesters, I had to stand up and give a voice to the unrecognized, unimportant Every Man within ”the rabble.” Not to convince, but for the peace of mind that comes with saying your piece.
Very few liberals actually come to this site so consequently I don’t debate very often here. I can’t pinpoint exactly why lefties don’t show up to conservative blogs–or vice-versa. When progressives do come here, I don’t have a problem with them making their points. I disagree and I make my little counter-statements, but a dialogue between me and a leftist doesn’t happen all that often. Again, I dunno why. It’s just the nature of the game.
However, there is a bigger point of this blog. Discussing issues with conservatives and libertarians is infinitely more interesting than debating members of the Left. It’s also more productive. If I make an argument amongst right-of-center types, the immediate response isn’t “YOU’RE A FUCKING RACIST SEXIST HOMOPHOBE BIGOT SCUM-FUCK WHO MOLESTS PUPPIES AND HATES OLD PEOPLE AND THE POOR!!!!!!1111111111111!!!!!!” That’s a very hostile mental environment to begin a conversation. Ergo, I’d rather not have to fight through the sundry nonsensical ramblings inherent in most liberals’ minds just to get to the point where some lefty thumbsucker can begrudgingly say, “Yeah, I guess I kinda see your point sorta, but whatever.” There’s just too much cost and not enough pay-off in that equation.
So to hell with that shit.
The other point of blogging–besides making fun of short bus politicians and pop culture dickbags–is the preference cascade phenomenon. Being conservative shouldn’t be some goofy political choice. It should be a perfectly reasonable ideological decision. Blogging is one way to make conservatism normal…because it is normal. We make up a plurality of the American electorate, but if you listen to a college English professor, a Hollywood Leerjet liberal, our brain dead President or any other member of the ‘smart’ set, you’d think being right-of-center is as abnormal as being a tranny hooker with a raging case of shingles who lives in Antarctica with his life partner Gary Busey.
This blog is a tiny little reminder that being conservative is not strange. Reckanize, liberals. We outnumber you. You’re the weird ones. The only thing you have on us is a dying mainstream media empire, a quickly fracturing entertainment business and a bunch of tenured radical college marxoids that work in a field more clusterfucked than the 2008 housing market. Your intellectual infrastructure is disintegrating and we’re rolling deep with the pitch-forks. Better button up those chin straps and tuck in your raisonette nads. It’s not going to end well for you progtards when we finally take back this country.

If someone ever tells me that I’m “A FUCKING RACIST SEXIST HOMOPHOBE BIGOT SCUM-FUCK WHO MOLESTS PUPPIES AND HATES OLD PEOPLE AND THE POOR!!!!!!1111111111111!!!!!!” I will simply point out that I have no dealings with puppies, as a matter of personal choice.

One of the main reasons I started blogging is because by nature I’m a live and let live kind of person. When the left decided that they were not going to let live I decided I had something to say about it. Excellent post KS.

You sound a lot like me, John.

You really nailed it with those final two paragraphs. We aren’t weird. My whole life, it felt like I was a conservative in a liberal world, but I wasn’t. The really gratifying thing I did not expect out of blogging, was to become a part of such a very large and dynamic network.
Yeah, I’m a small part. So what? I can do small.
Tranny hooker. Ha.
Thx for da link.

The classical “progessive” response to pretty much any and every conservative argument, KS. LOL.
You’re right, though… we should not allow ourselves to be marginalized. The mainstream media and entertainment industry do a great job of that.
There’s a reason why these totalitarian leftist schmucks now want to seize control of the internet… because it’s pretty much the last bastion of sane thought.

Interesting timing. I was just invited to do a guest post on a left leaning blog and I’m wondering if it is worth my time.

Well said Shamus! Well said.
Dialogue with a liberal? Isn’t that kind of like going to the bathroom while having a bad case of bleeding piles? It’s non productive and painful.
And where is my six figure salary for blogging? Seriously someone needs to call me and offer me a book deal. Though I’d settle for a sandwich right about now. I haven’t eaten in days. (I’m still waiting for Mayor Mike “Dickweed” Bloomberg to plow the fucking streets.

Terrific post and spot on with the analysis. Personally, I blog in the hope that I can change minds with what miniscule influence I am able to muster. Like Socrates, conservative bloggers are the gadfly that annoys the left and forces them to face the lunacy of their policies.

Whew! You scared me for a second. I saw the “About this whole blogging thing” headline in my reader… I’ve seen headlines like that before, and they’re usually followed by “Blogging. I’m sick of it. Shutting down the blog. Piss on all of you anyway!”
Thankfully that was not the case at all! Good post.

Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Good one KS. We’re all little drops in the bucket. But, put us together, and we’re a flood.

CG: Hahahaaaaaaa.
John: There’s a lot of truth there.
No-1: Thank you for the kind words. Your original post had me thinking for a while. It just kinda fell into place now.
Angel: I’m gonna try, my friend. You do the same.
Bunker: Right? This blogging thing puts us into contact we’d never hear from in the real world. Amazing stuff.
Karen: That’s exactly why we can’t let the net neutrality assholes win.
Trestin: FWIW, I’d say it’s probably good if you posted over there. Just keep your expectations low.
Infidel: Nurse Bloomberg really covered himself in glory with his handling of the blizzard, didn’t he? Hahaha, fuck you Mayor Mike, you useless incompetent jag-off.
William: The Socrates analogy is spot-on. I had never thought of it that way. Nice call.
Inn: I’ve got a few more posts in me before I hang up the mouse ‘n keyboard.
Matt: I pretty much call myself that every day. That’s like my daily affirmation or something.
