‘Immigration Reform’ Is Just Another Term For ‘Republican Suicide’

Posted by KingShamus on January 29, 2013

Playing the part of Doctor Kervorkian will be Senator John McCain.

John McCain:  Well, look, I’ll give you a little straight talk. Look at the last election. Look at the last election. We are losing dramatically the Hispanic vote, which we think should be ours for a variety of reasons, and we’ve got to understand that. Second of all, we can’t go on forever with 11 million people living in this country in the shadows in an illegal status. We cannot forever have children who were brought here by their parents when they were small children to live in the shadows, as well. So I think the time is right.

I stole this from The Other McCain.  Why not clicky that linky and read the rest of his post?  Come back when your finished.

Now please forgive me a moment, but I’m going to run a quick multiple choice quiz.  It’s only one question, so don’t sweat too hard.  Are you ready?   Okee-dokee, here it is.

What is the purpose of immigration?

A:  To help white guilt liberals feel good about themselves.

B:  To create a cheap labor source for crony socialist corporations.

C:  To give diversity trainers a reason to exist.

D:  To make the United States stronger.

If you answered “D”, you win a free one year subscription to Blog De KingShamus and an E-High Five!

(Please note–there is no such thing as an E-High Five.  Sorry Tennessee…and everywhere else.)

The only reason why you bring immigrants into the country is to make it better.   Any immigration policy that doesn’t make America a more powerful nation, in observable quantifiable ways, is idiocy soaked in stupidity slathered in mendacity wrapped in a zesty bullshit crust.  Also, score it a total loss if the purveyors of any new policy employ multi-culti pablum like ‘Diversity Is Strength’, ‘Live in the shadows’ or ‘Nation of Immigrants’ to justify the program.

For those who think the GOP congress will get a pat on the back from Hispanic voters for passing an some sort of amnesty immigration reform, I have one simple phrase:  “1965 Civil Rights Act”.  More Republicans voted for it than Democrats.  Senate Democrats fillibustered the thing  as much as they possibly could.  Of course, who got the credit?  Part-time Democrat President and full-time mega bigot Lyndon Johnson, naturally.

So here’s how it’s going to go down:

Republicans desperately want to be BFFs with Latinos, so they lead the charge to get an amnesty bill passed.  It’ll be filled with a lot of tough talk about enforcement and triggers and other folderol that will be nothing more than rhetorical fig leaves meant to fool conservatives.  The amnesty that dare not speak it’s name will blow through both chambers of Congress with massive bipartisan support.  Obama will have an enormous signing ceremony, surrounded by his usual cadre of human props.  Steve Kroft will lead the MSM cheerleaders praising the Democrats for finally solving this decades-long problem.

Meanwhile, Republicans will quickly get swept aside in the media narrative of ‘Barack–Benevolent Guardian of Hispanic Hopes And Dreams’.  Marco Rubio will get emo after he does all the work to get this monstrosity passed and none of the glory.  When Telemundo dutifully points out that many GOPers didn’t vote for shamnesty, the RNC will be shocked to find Latinos still think the Party of Lincoln is populated by racists.

Here’s the real kick in the teeth.  If you want a picture of the future, imagine eleven million formerly illegal immigrants voting Democrat—forever.  Republican permanent minority party status: ACHIEVED!

Bad News-The DREAM has died

Posted by KingShamus on December 18, 2010

The weeks of rallies, hunger strikes and sit-ins and the thousands of phone calls placed to Senate offices didn’t pay off for immigration activists.

The decade-old DREAM Act once again failed to break a filibuster in the Senate on Saturday morning, effectively killing the bill this year and shutting the door on what perhaps was the last chance for pro-immigration reform legislation until at least the 2012 election.

Darn it.

I was so looking forward to oodles more illegals pouring through our seive-like immigration system.  Oh whatever shall we do? [sarc/]

The DREAM act is a basically amnesty by another moniker.  This amnesty deform monstrosity would just encourage more illegals to make a run for the border.  Only in the blinkered ideological universe of Harry Reid and Co. does an amnesty program make sense.  Back on planet Earth, amnesty and it’s unintended–but very real and very painful–consequences would mean still more downward pressure on US wages (amongst many other bad things).  The Democrats: contributed to an economic meltdown in the aughts and still shitting on American workers today.

Senate Democrats came up five votes short of the 60 needed to advance the House-passed bill, which would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants brought to the country as children if they attend college or join the military for two years.

The 55-41 vote was mostly along party lines, though a handful of Democrats — perhaps fearful of their 2012 election outlook — also voted against the DREAM Act.

That’s absolutely critical.  A scared Democrat is a great kind of Democrat.  Even better than that is a Donkey-Puncher fearful of losing his job while also being from a red (or reddish) state.  Claire McCaskill,  Jon Tester, Ben Nelson, Kent Conrad and Sherrod Brown are all up for re-election in two years.  These five stealth statist, these ‘fake right, legislate left’ blowhards must be made to fear for their electoral lives.  It’s the only way we can make sure they vote even sorta right the next few years.

Imagine if these clowns actually represented the voters of their states.  Getting real spending cuts would be a possibility.  Overriding President Barry’s veto could happen.  We’d have a definite shot at repealing ObamaCare. How the DREAM Act got cut down gives us a template for how to do a lot of things for the next two years.  If conservatives are vigilant, we can keep the Democrats on their toes.

I snagged the Politico link from Memeorandum.

Update:  The rad Libertarian Republican points this out:

Note – 3 Republicans sided with CAIR – Murkowski, Lugar, and Voinivich.

Yes, our good friends at CAIR were all for the DREAM Act.  They’re such great patriots too.  CAIR endorsing DREAM is as reassuring as having Ayman Al-Zawahiri organize an interfaith tour bus in Tel Aviv.

Also, you gotta love these three dorks voting for the DREAM Act.  We’ve got a spoiled brat, an unreliable softie and a needle-dick RINO all voting to open up the floodgates.  Great job.  I’d say Dick Lugar has more than earned his stupid ass a bruisng career-ending primary challenge in 2012.  To hell with him.

Update II:  The great Instapundit points out something Mickey Kaus said.

The Tea Parties did it [Killed the DREAM Act]. Not only had they threatened establishment Republicans with primary opposition, but they had actually beaten one … two … three of them. Nothing like fresh heads on pikes to, er, reinforce a persuasive (to my mind) policy argument. Score one for losing Delaware Tea Partier Christine O’Donnell, who knocked off establishment pick Rep. Mike Castle (who voted for DREAM) in the GOP primary. Even score one for Alaskan Joe Miller. He probably alienated Republican Lisa Murkowski by beating her in the primary, and ultimately she won reelection anyway as a write-in. But that’s just one lost Senate vote. By my count, Miller’s primary coup may have helped gain around ten votes by terrifying GOP incumbents who might otherwise have been tempted by the prospect of a feel-good, bipartisan, MSM-approved pro-DREAM stand.

Which is exactly why we have to primary any and every wobbly Republican.

By the way, Mickey Kaus is the only reason to ever read Newsweek.  Not Fareeeeeeeeeeeed Zakaria.  Not Howard Fineman.  Certainly not Jonathan Alter.  Eleanor Clift?  Please.

What a useless rag of dickless DC conventional wisdom Newsweek is.

Sorry.  I just had to say it.

Amnesty Still Sucks

Posted by KingShamus on November 20, 2010

Hey kids, the dead duck douchebag Congress has got a fevah, and the only prescription is more AMNESTY!

In the post-election “lame duck” session of Congress, Obama and the Democrats will focus on jobs, jobs, jobs. … Oh, wait, no. They’ll focus on passing a big amnesty for illegal immigrants, in order to reward their Latino “base”–which was only 8 percent of the national vote but supposedly cares with something approaching monomania about amnesty (despite evidence that Hispanic American opinion is shifting against illegal immigration). … When did the Democrats’ African-American base–11 percent of the vote–get that kind of service?

Oh Mickey Kaus, you ask the most hilarious hypothetical questions.

The Democrats ‘care’ about Latinos because they’re a growing population segment.  Unlike black folk, who abort their babies at something like a 30% clip, Hispanics haven’t completely guzzled down the demographic-choking life-hating pro-choice kool aid.  Since Donkey-Punchers can still be bothered to read an actuarial table every once in a while, they know they’re going to need a more robust minority group to keep on the statist plantation in order to win 21st century elections.

I know people want to make this more complicated—Democrat concerns for minorities, traditional liberal support for social programs, open-borders libertarianism, blahblahfuckingblah—but it really is just about pure electoral politics.  The Democrat Party needs votes.  They see amnesty as a way of stocking up on a large voting bloc for future elections, when they believe El Estados Unidos will be far more Latin and much more liberal than it is today.

As far as current Hispanic-Americans and their feelings about illegal immigration, let’s take a closer look.

A new study shows Latinos have soured considerably on illegal immigration in the last three years.

In 2007, 50 percent of Latinos surveyed told the Pew Hispanic Center that the growing number of illegal immigrants was a positive force for the existing Latino population. In a Pew survey released last week, that number had plummeted to 29 percent.

Thirty-one percent said illegal immigration had a negative effect, and 20 percent said it had no effect.

Common sense would suggest that a blanket acceptance of amnesty amongst Hispanics would be unlikely.  First of all, the idea that you can group all Hispanics together into one big bloc of voters is problematic.  A dude from the Mexico feels a national affinity with his native country, not to some nebulous ‘Hispanic’ concept that doesn’t exist except in US Census questionnaires and American college applications.  Nor does that same Mexican feel a strong fraternal allegiance to Panama or Cuba.  A Honduran woman comes to America with a different set of cultural and historical assumptions than a woman from Argentina.  Moreover, these feelings don’t tend to cross over to another Latin American nationality nearly as much as some folks seem to believe.

On top of all that, it’s important to take into account things like geographic factors, length of time in America, education and economic attainment when looking at a potential Hispanic voting bloc.  A Dominican man with a high school diploma who lives in Washington Heights, New York, works in a corner store and has been in America for less than two years is more than likely going to have a different sort of political beliefs than a Peruvian guy who has lived in rural Kansas for the last twenty years, has an MBA and runs a business.

Because Latinos really aren’t a monolithic voting bloc, if a political party jumps whole-hog onto the DREAM Act bandwagon they’re likely to alienate large segments of the Hispanic populace.  This is one reason why the GOP’s dalliance with amnesty under George W. Bush was so monumentally bone-headed.  What were they thinking?  “Let’s get Hispanics to vote for us by passing something that’s going to piss off a whole shit-load of Hispanics who’ve been in America longer than five minutes.”  Really?

Furthermore, somebody in the Democrat Party needs to explain how amnesty makes political sense now.  Unemployment is 9.6%.  Passing the DREAM Act with no real border control mechanisms in place would almost surely invite more illegals into the country.  Voters who are nervous about getting employed or keeping their jobs are not going to be thrilled about yet another tidal wave of undocumented folks putting heavy downward pressure on wages and benefits.  Better still, unease about maintaining a precarious economic position during the Obambi Recession isn’t just being felt by native citizens.  Many Hispanic-Americans have to be fretting about keeping out of the unemployment office.

But of course, the political geniuses that gave us the gargantuan Democrat bloodbath in the 2010 midterms are now dead-set on passing another politically suicidal piece of legislation.  Bravo, Nancy and Harry.  Way to prove everybody right about just how idiotic you two window-lickers are.  Enjoy pounding your approval ratings down into the single digits.
